By reading the following quote from one of Confucius' analects, I was able to make a successful connection to my own life. But to better understand what I am trying to say, here is the quote from Confucius:
5.26: "Yan Hui and Zilu were in attendance. The Master said to them, "Why do you not each speak to me of your aspirations?" Zilu answered, "I would like to be able to share my carts and horses, clothing and fur with my fellow students and friends, without feeling regret." Yan Hui answered, "I would like to avoid being boastful about my own abilities or exaggerating my accomplishments." Zilu then said, "I would like to hear the Master's aspirations." The Master said, "To bring comfort to the aged, to inspire trust in my friends, and be cherished by the youth.""
I truly am able to understand and to comprehend on how Confucius wanted us to live. In complete harmony with one another, by teaching mutual respect. One of the ways to truly feel compassionate with ones self, is to not boast about what one person can do, and others cannot. One person needs to be more grateful for the abilities that that one person have that is what makes them unique. For it is what makes us unique, that truly pushes us to move forward. Life is all about striving for the top, learning, and change!
I feel that I can be able to relate to how Yan Hui feels, about trying to be able to retain his boastful feelings or even exaggerating his accomplishments. Plus, whenever I win a tennis match, I also feel the urge to celebrate, however, I remember to take into account on how my opponent's feelings might be reflected on my actions. I always take the time to shake my opponent's hand, and congratulate them on what a successful match we had. Because I know that no matter what, no matter who wins or loses, one will continue to strive for the top, learn, and change.
Well, that's the end of this blog post! Until the next one! Bye!
