Gilgamesh Song

"Gilgamesh the king;
some said he was an ox.
He braved the land;
both far and wide;
that Enkidu always fought."

"Gilgamesh the king;
some said he was an ox.
He went to face;
Huwawa's face;
and sing his victory song."

"Gilgamesh the king;
some said he was an ox.
Enkidu's loss;
was but a pounce;
from the gods, down to his soul."

"Gilgamesh the king;
some said he was an ox.
Utnapishtim's words and woe;
had brought him to do so."

"Gilgamesh the king;
some said he was an ox.
Although his death;
was long and rough;
his epic is always tough."

"Gilgamesh the king;
some said he was an ox.
His quest it seems;
ran far and wide;
yet his legend;
sees no stop!"

THE END!

Gilgamesh Tablet XI

In this tablet of Gilgamesh, I had discovered that the story that Utnapishtim was telling Gilgamesh, was one that we had read last year in Social Studies. Also, I can make an inference, that most of the events that occurred in this epic, bear a lot of resemblance, to Noah's Ark, in the Bible!

The only question now is, what came first? I can understand how Utnapishtim came to sail out the flood, but I do not understand on how he deserved to recieve the power of inmortality? It was just a clever trick, after all!

Gilgamesh VI to VII

In this part of the epic, realizing that their dreams have been reached, they know that there is NOTHING, that they cannot do, together! However, ambiguous relations with a selfish goddess, make Gilgamesh realize the truth behind her intentions, and does not allow her will, to tear him, and Enkidu, apart!

Even though jealousy, overcomes the goddess, Ishtar, Gilgamesh, and Enkidu prove, that nothing they can't do together, could, EVER, break their bond, with each other! Thus proven, when together, they defeated, the Bull of Heaven!

"Friendship is a force that not even death, can tear apart", is a very strong saying. However, now, its become literal. Through the path of jealousy, in which the goddess, Ishtar, chose, death, has overcome Enkidu, and, unfortunately, there is nothing that Gilgamesh can do, in order to stop it!

I have not had any friends that have passed away, but, I know that if I ever do, I would feel EXACTLY, the same way, as Gilgamesh is feeling. Through the painful process, of over coming the passing, of his lost brother, Enkidu!

Well, thats the end of this blog post! Until the next one! Bye!

Gilgamesh IV to V

In this part of the epic, I can comprehend that the struggle of having to face these dreams, sent from Shamash, and on learning on how to comprehend these dreams, into the will of Enkidu, really strengthens the bond that Gilgamesh and Enkidu, have together.

And that in knowing that all of these dreams are a realization, that these two brothers, can together, triumph over Huwawa, the guardian of the forest; increases their belief, that anything, that they accomplish together, can be achieved!

Sometimes, I have the same sort of realizations, with my brother. We struggle sometimes, but in the end, we always know, that together, we can accomplish, ANYTHING!!!

Well, thats the end of this blog post! Until the next one! Bye!

Gilgamesh I to III

In the first parts of this legend, I managed to understand on how the city of Uruk, was created, and on how its king, Gilgamesh, came to rule over it as well. From what I have read so far, I can understand the ways through which every city in the beginning, has its own flourishing moment. But every city, has its flaws. In this case it was the struggle in between Gilgamesh, and Enkidu, however, I do not know of the ways through which Gilgamesh had realized that Enkidu was worthy; and after that, they ruled together.

Even though a lot of the parts in this story are difficult, Sumerian, epics, in the end, and as the story goes on, everything comes into place!

Well, thats the end of this blog post! Until the next one! Bye!
